- It passes through the triangular space to the infraspinous fossa.
- Gives off two branches (transverse & descending) in the infraspinous fossa and anastomoses with the suprascapular artery (= transverse scapular artery) and the dorsal scapular artery (= descending branch of the transverse cervical artery).
- Part of the collateral circulation of the scapula (anastomosis).
